A California Senate committee approved Senate Bill 24, a bill created with the intention to expand abortion services, specifically the use of abortion drugs, to students on college campuses.
According to a recent article, an estimated 300 to 500 University of California and California State University students already seek abortions in California each month, traveling off-campus to facilities where they may have to make appointments to receive abortion pills or procedures. The numbers would likely increase if abortion were more easily accessible on campus. Though abortion is already covered under California's university system student healthcare policies, bill proponents say the price of abortion would be more affordable if the bill became a law.
