Fall is a time of gratitude for family and connection with one another. Families across America are preparing for Thanksgiving and spending time together. A 2021 study published in the journal Academic Pediatrics examined the relationship between family connection in childhood and flourishing in adulthood.
Researchers studied 4,199 American adults, ages 25 to 74. They found that those who experienced higher familial connection during childhood often experienced greater flourishing as adults. This association between family connection and adulthood flourishing was consistent, even when the participants experienced adversity in childhood or lived in a state of socioeconomic disadvantage.
As we approach Thanksgiving this year, be intentional about connecting with your family, especially the children. Research says your efforts will be rewarded for years to come!
