Teachers in Ohio have begun wearing badges that designate themselves as a "safe space" for LGBTQ+ students. Parents are especially concerned, because these badges also have a QR code that links to a website containing sexually explicit material.
These badges were given by request to teachers at the discretion the local chapter of the National Educator's Association (NEA). This has also led to increased division among teachers. Since the badges are given at the discretion of the NEA, when teachers are pressured into obtaining a badge, they also must align themselves with the NEA, whether the teachers agree with them or not.
Another concern is that these badges are being given to teachers from elementary all the way to high school. Many parents are also concerned that having certain teachers officially labelled as "safe" may open the door for bad actor teachers to take advantage of vulnerable students.
