For many, online dating can be difficult, and now, having to decipher if the person on the other side of the screen is real can make it that much more challenging. Since the FBI has seen so much heartbreak, they have created "Operation Romeo and Juliet" to stop the scams and large financial losses. Since October 2013, there were more than 17,600 reported cases of scamming that incurred over $2.3 billion in losses. Take into account some of the ways you can avoid a scammer: For more tips click here.
- Never provide your personal information, including bank account information to anyone you don't trust or know
- Do a Google search on the person. Are they linked to a scam website?
- Do your research and find out more about them. Scammers like to ask the victim questions to know what they are like. In reality, is that "the perfect mate?"
